Tora Indra 32cm Kukri Re-handle

I was asked to rehandle a kukri for a gentleman that the original had been damaged at the butt end.

It's a traditional Nepalese Kukri but I did say that I wouldn't be able to replicate the handle shape with the original ridge shape to it. (Personally I don't find that style comfortable for my hand anyway)

I decided to use Elm for the handle. Not a fancy wood (although I did manage to use a piece with some knots and rippling grain) but solid and dependable. The dark colour is due to soaking in Danish Oil for two days.

It's hard to tell in the photo but I was trying to show the very subtle hollow face of the blade.
Brilliant craftsmanship.

I didn't take many pictures of the build but a few snippets from when I did remember to take the camera out.

I made a rough copy of the tang so I could burn the tang hole in without running the blade heat treatment.

The piece of Elm was very over sized which meant quite a bit of wastage but I wanted to make sure that there was enough to give a good full handle.
