Fallkniven F1 Rehandle - Part 3 / Re-start!

I've just got hold of a Fallkniven H1 stick tang blade that'll need a new handle so I thought I should actually do something about the F1 that I started back in 2011!

This was the original few posts:

As you can see, I had originally planned a micarta bolster and cocobolo handle.

I decided to change that plan to a homemade micarta handle from some black denim and tan cotton using a technique I learned from Mike Reed.

So first off, a bit of chamfering of the 90 degree corners that will be visible afterwards. This will allow the micarta to flow around the tang more effectively.

and then some cutting up of the fabric....

into this.

Gluing and squishing to follow at a later date.

A Friction Folder concept design.

Not a lot to see but a little doodle earlier of an idea for a friction folder. I've worked out the internal bits (they're hidden under the red and black!)

I'm really keen to do this but what I would also really like to do is build it while recording it as a stop motion animation. I really like Fank Howarth's work that he does and the amount of time and effort he must put into some of his videos is immense.

To show it, here's one that he has recently published on his self assembling table saw:

https://youtu.be/ViKmwhVMXpE

then the making of that video:

https://youtu.be/OwhMY2HJfeU

His other videos are worth checking out too.

I think it's probably too optimistic doing the whole build of the knife as an animation, especially considering it could be my first time making such a film! I'm thinking that as my plan for this could be for it to be fully dismantle-able with a screw construction, that having it build itself in an animation could be fun.

We'll see!!!!

Ironwood Bushcraft Knife for sale

Ironwood handled Bushcraft knife in the Woodlore style for sale.

The steel on this is 52100 - if you don't know that's the same stuff that ball bearings and bearing races are made from - tough stuff!

220mm length, 4mm thick blade.

The handle is made from Ironwood and as the name suggests, it's hard stuff! Red liners underneath for a bit of interest, brass pins and a bit of shaping at the rear to allow a lanyard to sit flat against your hand in use.

No sheath but a leather one could be made at an additional cost.

£70 delivered in the UK.

It should go without saying but over 18s only!
