I just re-found these pictures from an old piece of work from 2009 that I had forgotten existed.

Fallkniven F1 handled in Desert Ironwood

Not the best pictures - fading light yesterday and the wife left my better camera at a friends house.

This is a Fallkniven F1 I have fitted a custom handle to in lovely dark Desert Ironwood, almost black in places. A few swirls of lighter colours going on too.

Some mosaic pins, red liners and some nice curves finish it off.

I wasn't sure if I would like the mosaic pins because they do not have rotational symmetry (think that's the right term) but the design of them has grown on me and I think they work well with the simple handle. Quite bold in the design.

Damascus blade, ready for a handle.

If I remember correctly, this damascus is the 3rd or maybe 4th pattern welded billet I forged. It's one of a few I welded up and left as bar stock to use at a later date.

After welding up the layers of striaght steel, each 'tooth' was made by cutting a wedge shape out on each side, alternating up the billet, then forging it flat again. It was an attempt from memory of how to make dogs tooth damascus. I don't know if it worked as dog tooth but it's got enough interest there.

The steel is 15n20 and CS70.

The handle is going to have a brass bolster, cocobolo handle, some mammoth ivory spacers and some other spacers!

An old Sgian Dubh design i came across.

I randomly found this old doodle that I did years ago in a cooking book, presumably being used as a bookmark!

I did attempt to make it, very early on in my knife making journey but it turned out quite different. I think I was being very ambitious with what I could achieve at that time. I still like the design and think I will have to do it again, correctly this time.

I find the doodle quite interesting to see again..

The knife is quite obvious what it is, as is the knotwork in the middle. On the left is some filework doodling. I've not particularly done much filework but looking at that has piqued my interest again - I particularly like the one that is one up from the bottom.
The object at the top, I have no idea what it is or what it was intended for! It's obviously supposed to rotate with a stop block but for what purpose, I have no idea. I think it's going to bug me for a while trying to remember why I drew it!
